The downtown Art Alley is growing. It now features six 8’ x 8’ murals created by local artists in the pedestrian alley off Main Street between Washington and Lincoln. The creatives were first given the theme “Love Goshen Places.” Then they came up with concepts for their murals and applied to be part of the project.
The initiative began more than a year ago when several local Realtors suggested that Goshen apply for an arts-related grant. The grant’s purpose was to encourage Realtors to collaborate with their local city officials to help make public art projects happen. Elkhart County Board of Realtors members including Ava Breniser, Kelly Avila, and Dallan Troyer all stepped up to help the plan come to fruition.

Becky Hutsell, redevelopment project manager with the City of Goshen, worked tirelessly to bring this project together. Goshen’s Street Department then installed the six murals along the alley. Additionally, Realtors stepped up to sponsor each mural so the creators could be compensated for their work.
