“When I started as an illustrator out of college, I started with watercolor and ink. I actually used to do children’s book-style illustrations. I even got a chance to illustrate two educational children’s books for Scholastic Canada, which was kind of fun. Then I got a job working as an illustrator/graphic designer for a giftware company. That’s where I switched a little bit more to digital. But then I still missed doing work by hand, so I started working on printmaking, linocuts, and screen printing. That’s when I started my own greeting card line. So I do more digital, a little bit of linocuts now.

My style is more fun, whimsical. I love creating images that are fun with some punny elements to them. I want my designs to connect with people and make them smile.

In the art world, I would say my favorite experience is when people actually look at my art. Because you’re putting your heart and soul into whatever you’re doing. You’re trying to come up with what you want to interpret or draw or create. When I go to arts and crafts shows and the way people react to the work, that’s what’s most memorable to me. I love when people look at my art and smile and kind of say they love it – ‘This just brightened my day!’ Or, ‘I gave this card to someone and they just were so happy.’ The reaction I get from people is what is most memorable for me.

I’m the owner of the local business called The Imagination Spot. It’s been really fun being in Goshen. I love that Goshen has so many artists in a community that really appreciates art. I moved from Toronto. It was really expensive and hard to start your own business, a creative business, or any business for anyone. Being in Goshen, I love the small-town feel. I love that it’s affordable. You get to know so many artists and small business owners here. People kind of root for each other. I find there’s more collaboration than competition. I think Goshen is a great place to be as an artist.”
