“My medium is acrylic paint. I do other stuff, too, like pencil, ink, oil sometimes. My personal style that I think works for me has been pop art – very vibrant colors – and surrealism. I really like incorporating both of those things because they’re so opposite of each other. It works for me.
After high school, I worked with Michelle Fanfair-Steury of The Gift of G.A.B. Goshen’s Alternative Boutique and we would do a lot of cool projects. A lot of those projects ended up in, like, New York City, or somebody in Chicago would buy it. I think that’s one of the cool things I’ve done with my art, other than the mural now. That really resonated with me – random projects that would sell to the most random people or the most random locations.
The City of Goshen wanted us to do a “Love Goshen” type of thing. I wanted something that was going to stand out – something when you walk by it, you’re like ‘Whoa!’ I guess my inspiration for it was something we might all have in common. I wanted it to be surreal, to incorporate pop art and surrealism. I guess I was inspired by trying to think of an art piece and then thinking of head space and the mind. I think a lot of things were inspiring me, ‘me thinking’ being the main one.”
