“Music is my medium. I really like expressing myself through playing the guitar and singing. I feel more comfortable doing that in my native language, of course. That’s basically how it comes through on the music I do with the band. I try to stay close in touch with my culture, and one way to do that is to sing in Spanish and play Latin music.

Something I’m really proud of is being able to play music that, while not necessarily in most of the population’s first language, is still finding people who find it interesting to listen to, even though they might not necessarily understand what we’re saying. That is pretty significant to me because when I was growing up, most of the music I listened to was in a language that I didn’t understand. It kind of seemed like a normal thing to me, being able to listen to things that you didn’t understand.

Goshen has been very diverse musically. I’ve been able to play almost any style of music I’ve gotten to know. I’ve found people who also happen to be interested in that style, whether it’s jazz or traditional Mexican music and rock and Spanish rock, somehow this little town happens to have people in all of the styles of music. It’s been a very entertaining and fun experience playing with different people in our area who enjoy all these maybe not necessarily super-popular genres, especially in our small town. Goshen definitely knows how to keep it interesting, I guess.”
